Thank you to all who attended the U18 Tier 2 Tryouts. The following codes which can be found on your receipt are the players who make up the team.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR
U18/U15 & U13 TRYOUTS

Once the OWHA announced that Hockey would be coming back our volunteers started working right away to make that happen. The schedule for our U18/U15/U13 Tier 1 and Tier 2 tryouts can be found above. 

We know tryouts will not look the same. We are limited in the amount of ice we have access to and we are limited in the amount of skaters allowed on the ice. As such we have had to modify tryouts to work within these restrictions. While this is not ideal, we feel it is a better option than paper tryouts. We will do our best to make sure as many girls as possible get a chance to tryout but we CANNOT guarantee everyone will. 

Per City of Kingston COVID policies we are allowed 25 on ice and 25 in the stands. What does that look like for tryouts?

22 skaters
3 on ice coaches
22 parents/guardians
1 trainer/COVID screener
2 evaluators
= 50 people within the rink.

We are limited in the amount of ice we have access to but will be able to offer 44 players two hours of ice time guaranteed in each division.

The third tryout in each division will be by invite only. 

 A Permission to Skate is required for players not currently registered with the Greater Kingston Girls Hockey Association.

 What to expect:
* Registration for Tier 1 tryouts opened on July 31, 2021.
* Registration for Tier 1 closed August 7, 2021.
* Registration for Tier 2 opens August 8, 2021 and remain open until Tier 1 teams are selected.
* Coaches and the VP of Rep will review the list of skaters and assign them to Group 1 or 2. If there are more than 44 skaters registered the coaches and the VP of Competitive will determine who is going to be invited to attend.
* An email will be sent to players confirming a spot and will include dates/times and all COVID protocols that must be followed. 

Each individual tryout will cost $25 to be
paid by cash or cheque at the door.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR U9 & U11 COMPETITIVE & HOUSE LEAGUE PLAYERS:

• In accordance with the Hockey Canada Development Pathways,  development sessions will be held for our U11 and U9 age groups.
• All U9 and U11 players will register for our House League program.
• Pre-season development will be the focus at the beginning of the season, regardless of intentions to play competitive or house league - however players planning to tryout for a U11 or U9 competitive team will ONLY be eligible if they attend these development sessions.
• Competitive tryouts will be held following the completion of the development sessions. Separate competitive registration will open at this time.
• U9 and U11 house league practices and games will begin following the development sessions.

The GKGHA U18/U15 and U13 Tier 1 tryouts are posted above. The full Tier 2 tryout schedule is still being finalized but U18 and U15 will begin August 29th. U13 will run following labour day weekend.

Also announced was the Volunteer of the year award.  Tracy MacKenzie and Lisa Gerlsbeck  put in an exceptional effort this year in forming the policy and procedures that allowed for a safe return to hockey.  They spent countless hours behind the scenes along with many at the rink helping our teams enter and exit the rink in a format never seen before.  They are a massive asset to the organization and their efforts deserve recognition. 

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the departing board members for their hard work and dedication. While we face another season with many unknowns I am confident in the ability of these individuals to guide the GKGHA through another memorable year of hockey.

The GKGHA is excited to announce that we have been selected to host a First Shift program in 2022. If your daughter is between the ages of 6 and 10 years old and has never played hockey before this is the perfect program for her. On ice sessions will run Saturday mornings starting in February 2022 and the program includes head-to-toe equipment including skates. Registration opens June 15th at firstshift.ca and spaces are limited.
